Lima Negra

Lima Negra is, at its core, Javier Sola and Juan Carlos Ruiz: a kind of Pete Doherty and Carl Barât impersonators, sometimes disguised as Juan Perro or Willy Deville, with an endless curiosity to discover and absorb music. Over time, various musicians and characters have joined the project, being “vampirized” with charm by these two rascals, who move effortlessly through a wide range of rhythms and traditions.

LIMA NEGRA is a folklore that has never existed. It’s like they’re paying tribute to a classic genre, but surprise! That genre has never actually been played by anyone — they invented it themselves.

They sound like something you’ve heard all your life and you think, “Ah, yeah, that sounds familiar.” But no. They’re tricking you. And when you realize it, you find yourself — especially with that name — compelled to admit that they have a very fresh sound and that you’re witnessing a duo with real potential, because there isn’t much to compare them to. That gives them freedom and takes the pressure off
