Marina y su Melao

Marina y su Melao is a Barcelona-based band led by Puerto Rican Marina Molina. After a period of live activity, in 2025 they release their debut album, Rezo al agua, where Puerto Rican bomba expands to blend with the colors and flavors of other Afro-Caribbean sounds. “Tumtumtum pa, tumtumtum pa.” That’s how the drum sounds when the bomba begins — an Afro-descendant musical expression born as resistance and response to oppression in Puerto Rico. Before the world knew Bad Bunny, there were already people like MARINA Y SU MELAO working from the margins, in the city of Barcelona. Now, with the scent of coffee and the weight of migrant experience, their debut album Rezo al agua (Lovemonk, 2025) arrives. A bomba reshaped and transformed, looking to the future. MARINA Y SU MELAO bridges two seemingly distant worlds — the Caribbean and Barcelona — becoming a way to bring the distant closer.
