Irieix

Irieix is an electro-singer-songwriter project that revolves around pop, Latin music, self-parody, and Catalan-style sad-boy vibes. You’ll find references to memes and post-humor. The songs don’t necessarily speak from personal experience but rather from the narrative perspective of a character who is almost always a loser failing to achieve their goals. At MMVV, they will premiere their debut album.

Irieix defines himself as an “electro-singer-songwriter,” a concept most likely invented just to be the only result when you Google it. His music blends Latin rhythms and electropop with the deeply Protestant Catalan spirit of complaint and sadness. In truth, Irieix is the outlet through which Lluís Margarit writes his songs from a cynical, post-ironic distance, using a fictional character to whom he has attributed his own traits and experiences — much like Woody Allen or Joel Joan. In short, it’s the band Manel for the kind of people who, instead of being best friends with their Catalan teacher in high school, were trying to get high on codeine syrup in the park next door.
