A PEDREIRA

A Pedreira is the project of Ugia Pedreira, a key voice in contemporary Galician music. With Basal, she offers a sonic journey that blends music, psychology, and rootedness. The show moves between rave and foliada, jazz and 80s disco, tribal dance and ritual. A poetic universe drawing from Galicia, Cuba, and Brazil, it fuses folk, rock, and jazz with deep emotional intensity and a strong commitment to language and territory.

“A Pedreira” is a place. A quarry where stones are extracted. I picture it easily: something hard, cold, stones that are rough or polished, sharp, tiny or massive, shaped with the tenacity of time’s own style. A pebble is a stone too, I remind myself. Ugia Pedreira is a singer and songwriter, and we know her as A PEDREIRA. Her world takes me to that grey lunar landscape, lit with a silvery glow of mineral edges. She picks up the torch passed hand to hand through folk music and distills in her own voice a clear intention to speak with depth — with proud fragility, playfully defiant, and a joy that doesn’t dazzle at first glance. Galician music is already a lush garden in itself, and A PEDREIRA’s singing rolls, spins, and drifts... I sense a rock 'n' roll heart, an ancient sorrow. And a sense of humor I can’t explain — but one that fills me with a wild kind of faith.
