Albert Cirera is one of the most innovative voices in contemporary Catalan jazz. With a style defined by exploration and freedom, he blends energy, groove, and melodic creativity. After Els Encants and Suite Salada, he returns with Orangina, the third album from the project Albert Cirera i Tres Tambors, alongside Roger Mas, Marko Lohikari, and Òscar Domenech. It's another step forward in his pursuit of a unique and surprising musical language.
Albert Cirera: saxophones and compositions
Roger Mas: piano
Marko Lohikari: double bass
Òscar Domenech: drums
The saxophonist from Igualada, ALBERT CIRERA, is an alchemist of combinations. In duo with rhythm wizard Ramon Prats as Duot; in sextet with Kamarilla; solo as Cicerot; and in quartet format alongside the THREE DRUMS who, if indeed they were, were none other than Marco Mezquida (piano), Marko Lohikari (double bass), and Óscar Doménech (drums). His is a kind of jazz that walks the edges of the avant-garde, always searching for new textures and colors. He has showcased this masterfully in signature albums like Els Encants (Fresh Sound Records, 2012) and especially Suite salada (Underpool, 2017), where the spirit of Keith Jarrett soaks in Mediterranean landscapes. With his new project Orangina (Underpool, 2025), the music of this relentless quartet — with Roger Mas as a top-tier live replacement — aims to shake the listener's emotions and guide them through a journey across a valley of sound, ending on unexplored shores. Ram, ram, pataplam… for me, this is something not to be missed.
