Sanguijuelas del Guadiana is one of the most successful projects from Extremadura on the Spanish music scene. Formed by Carlos Candela, Juan Grande, and Víctor Arroba, the trio gives voice to a new rural generation with autobiographical songs that speak about village life, reflecting the changes of a territory transforming without losing its essence.
Ugly corner of the village. White peeling wall. A young guy appears with a flock of sheep, while on the next street two teenagers ride electric scooters. Two ladies chat sitting on wooden chairs. An Amazon delivery person passes by. A milkman walks delivering glass bottles, and behind him two guys stand on a three-wheeled scooter. This scene, captured in the first music video of SANGUIJUELAS DEL GUADIANA, defines the band better than I could with many words. An electric guitar and a cajón. I get excited by the new and fall in love with the old. Or rather, I get excited by rock and fall in love with flamenco.
