Barencia

Barencia is the meeting point between Barcelona and Florence, featuring a trio led by pianist Xavi Torres, double bassist Michelangelo Scandroglio, and drummer Bernardo Guerra. In their live performances, their compositions engage in dialogue with the movements of Mexican bailaora Karen Lugo. They present their self-titled album, Barencia—a shared journey between two cities.

In recent years, we’ve learned that the new wave of folk-rooted music has elegantly dismantled what we stubbornly used to call tradition. We now know that turning traditions into museum pieces is the same as dooming them. Barencia, fortunately, does the exact opposite: blending heritage and artistic disciplines to create a performance free of convention. Music and dance, flamenco and jazz, body and instruments come together to shape an imaginary city between Barcelona and Florence, where anything can happen.
